A Beautiful Evening

DSC00860After about 20 years, my old friend visited us last evening with his wife. It should be not right to call him a friend as we have not kept in touch for the last so many years, but yes we worked together for two three years in the same organization when both of us were in our early twenties.

That was about 40 years back; now that both of us are senior citizen it was really wonderful that we could recall most of the details of our routine of those years. Fortunately one more friend who also studied with me for two years during the teenage year also joined the same organization and the three of us were working together.

It was strange that we could recall names of most of the persons who were working with us with their unique characteristics. 40 years is a lot of time but this was wonderful to remember what the coffee and party items cost and that there used to be a party every other day as most of us were unmarried then.

We could also remember the books purchased with the help of a lady colleague for our office library and the small group of 7-8 boys who used to have best time of our life.

It is strange that with a very small salary most of which went to our parents, cycle for our transport and no luxuries, life was so happy and pleasant that remembering those times made us happy even today.

The intervening years have had their toll. The Classmate had met with an accident in 1983 which left him in very bad shape and he cannot move without help, but he has kept his sense of humour intact. My wife has had her kidney transplant and the other gentleman also has had his shares of worry. The memories kept us happy for almost 2-3 hours of the evening with a promise of meeting again soon.
